Dan, what is remarkable is that you have hit the nail on the head in this essay. Very well said in terms of expressing how many people think and feel it's something the Democratic Party have to come to terms with and they need to come up with a clear vision, strategy and possible solutions. They just seem rudderless at the moment and have been for some time
As usual a very fair and correct analysis, with one exception: Joe Biden was a mediocre President guided by no clear principles and bending to every political wind. If he had been in almost any other state he would have been retired decades ago. And his Presidency was even worse than you describe. Over time his reputation will recede to the depths in which it belongs.
I am an internal medicine physican. Unlike so many other diagnoses that need a hands-on evaluation, a well-trained eye can spot dementia from far away. I will say right now, it was crystal clear to me from his behavior in 2019 ( 2019!) in the primary that he had no business being the President. I have the social media posts from that year to show that I did all I could to warn everyone around me about this. Instead of - "Gee, a decades of experience doctor can point this all out - maybe we should think about this" - I got hate mail, screeds, character dispersions, lying, over the top insults. There was not a single one of my Dem friends who thought "maybe there is a problem." -
As his Presidency unfolded I just got a sick feeling. I have seen all the signs and symptoms so often in my practice, the blank stare, the pigeon-toed gait, the family running interference, the incredibly out of control things being said and done in public, on and on and on. It made me literally sick.
But the Dems doubled down and nominated him again. Now it is all over the place how many leaders saw all the problems I did - and yet often contributed to the censorship and sliming of any public figure who said otherwise. Now we are surrounded by people whining about Trump and fascism - and I just want to scream to the top of my lungs - IF THIS WAS SO IMPORTANT, WHY DID YOU NOMINATE AN OBVIOUS LITERAL DEMENTIA PATIENT AS YOUR CHAMPION, NOT ONCE, BUT TWICE? It is a question that must be answered.
Until this is answered and there is accountability, this Democrat is absolutely done with anything and everything coming out of the National Party. This just simply cannot be allowed again. Dan, please tell any and all of your friends in leadership that. And also please tell them the way I feel is not unique. This is a laughingstock issue out here in the Heartland.
What do you see with trump? He's definitely not well. He has so many with mental problems, in his administration. More psychotic, than dementia, racist, sociopaths.
Unlike Biden, who clearly was already having dementia like behavior, both mental and physical, long before he became President, Trump is having no such issues. He may very well have personality disorders but those are not medical disorders. I do not feel qualified to make that kind of diagnosis. The Biden issues were so obviously dementia that I am just horrified that we elected him President. And then to double down on it in 2020 was just inexcusable and was a textbook example of elder abuse.
They both seem responsible for this. Dr. Jill seemed to love the spotlight and magazine covers. President Biden himself just seems to have no clue that he’s not someone anyone wants to hear from. He’s not got many years, I wish he would concentrate on legacy things like getting his portraits painted and his library planned. That’s enough to keep him busy if he wants to stay active. But I can imagine no scenario where he addresses the Democratic Convention in 2028, for example. Many partisans feel that his presidency will be rated quite highly for a one term president, but I don’t see it. He’ll be down there with Carter, who is somewhat overrated in the standings himself.
Absolutely love seeing you on 2WAY, Dan! I wish more Democrats were able to speak as clearly and effectively as you; I might be tempted to become a Democrat.
Is this Lindy Li person just another grifter? I do not remember a fundraiser for any party searching out the spotlight like her. Her interview with Tara Palmeri was a train wreck. Is she just looking for her 15 minutes of fame?
Biden and Trump are symptoms of both parties losing their way. Principles be damned, winning at all costs became the mantra for both sides and the country has suffered for it. The people used to demand accountability of their public servants, but now, they outsource their concerns to them and hope for the best. The politicians always sell the concept that "this time, it's different" but is it? I voted for Trump, I hope so. And yet I also worry that I'll look back and be as disappointed as past voters looked back at Presidents they voted for.
Dan, as a life long independent who has been more left leaning since Obama I have to say you are correct. I liked Joe. I really thought he could do something to help. Instead all that happened is the divide got worse.
I'm terrified of trump. His first 100 or so days have done nothing to help that fear. But listening to your show in the mornings with Mark and Sean help me feel a little saner. I might even be warning up to Spicer... Just a little!
It was only a failure due to the lack of a cohesive communication arm of the democratic party. We had record stock market appreciation and historic job growth and passed the first infrastructure bill since FDR(maybe a slight embellishment). The inflation problem was due to COVID-19 and Trump's mishandling of the pandemic at the beginning; Democrats never tried to explain that or trumpet a lot of good economic news. Biden should never have considered a second term and stuck to his story that he was a transitory healer of the national discourse. Now, Trump is destroying the economy with his tariff policy, destroying America's standing in the world by attacking our allies. Destroying our universities and their research abilities. I am sadly reminded of a National Lampoon cover for the '70s, America as a second-rate nation. We are on the way, and the Dems have no clue how to frame an opposition alternative to Trump.
I agree with you. but part of the message failure was that biden was incapable of using the bully pulpit in any sustained or systematic way because of his decline. his team lived in fear of the public seeing him on bad days. so while he did do some great things, nobody knew and now it's being dismantled. just tragic.

sighhhh....yes. hopefully we are now inching back up. shutter to think we could go further down. lol.

she def played a role!
Perfectly said as always. It is very sad and I don’t I understand how Jill is allowing this to happen.
agree.

That being said the Biden's need to enter witness protection before they damage the party any further
ha!
